Soy Foods for good health

Soy foods for good health. Researchers are still trying to determine the extent to which including soy foods in our diet will help maintain good health, free from disease. There's no reason to wait for research results before adding soy to your healthy eating plan. The key to eating well is food variety, balance and moderation. Enjoy Vitasoy premium soymilk as part of a healthy eating plan together with regular exercise.

Suitable for vegetarians

Vitasoy premium soymilks and Ricemilk do not contain animal derived ingredients and are suitable for vegetarian or vegan eating plans.

High quality protein

Soy beans are packed with valuable first class protein. In fact, almost half (40%) of the soy bean is protein. Soy bean protein is of higher biological value than most vegetable proteins and is of similar high quality to milk and egg proteins. Soy beans are the only non-animal source of first class protein.

Protein is made up of 20 common amino acid building blocks. Of these, 8 amino acids are essential for adults and 9 are essential for infants and children (who also require more of the amino acid called histidine due to their rapid growth). Soy beans are one of the few plant foods that contain all of the essential amino acids, with limited amounts of the amino acid methionine which is found in cereals such as wheat. So by adding soymilk to your breakfast cereal, you'll get all of the amino acids you need.

In humans, different combinations of amino acids can make proteins that have very specific functions in the body. Protein is needed to make hair, nails, muscles and enzymes and more!

Protein combining

Soy beans can be used to complement cereals such as rice, maize, barley, wheat and rye. These cereals have incomplete proteins, meaning that they do not contain all of the essential amino acid building blocks of protein. Soy beans contain these essential amino acids. By combining soy beans with these cereals, the protein biological value is similar to that found in meat, fish and dairy foods.

Sounds difficult? It's as easy as enjoying Vitasoy on your muesli, a glass of Vitasoy soymilk with your sandwich at lunchtime or in a recipe with rice or pasta for dinner.
